Job Description:

Shop Assistant

Key Responsibilities of a Mechanic Shop Assistant

Basic Maintenance Tasks

Performing routine maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations, fluid level checks, battery checks, and greasing.

Part Retrieval and Preparation

Locating and retrieving required parts from inventory, cleaning parts before installation, and assisting with part installation.

Vehicle Preparation

Moving vehicles around the shop, lifting vehicles on lifts, and positioning them for repairs.

Wash Bay

Washing all fleet vehicles on a rotating basis.

Tool Assistance

Handing tools to mechanics, cleaning tools after use, and ensuring proper tool storage.

Shop Upkeep

Keeping the shop clean and organized, including sweeping floors, disposing of waste, and maintaining a tidy work area.

Inventory Management

Assisting with inventory checks, notifying mechanics when parts are low, and helping with maintaining accurate stock levels.

Basic Repair Assistance

Helping mechanics with tasks like removing and installing components, holding parts while tightening bolts, and supporting during complex repairs.

Test Driving Vehicles

Performing short test drives to verify repairs under the supervision of a mechanic.

Required

Skills and Qualifications

Basic mechanical knowledge:
Understanding basic automotive systems like engines, brakes, tires, and fluids.

Hand tool proficiency:
Ability to use common hand tools safely and effectively.

Physical ability:
Capability to lift heavy objects, bend, crawl, and stand for extended periods.

Attention to detail:
Ability to follow instructions carefully and perform tasks accurately.

Teamwork skills:
Working effectively with other mechanics and shop staff to achieve repair goals.

Valid driver's license:
Necessary for test driving or moving vehicles.
