In this role, you will play a central part in shaping the technical architecture, vision, and implementation strategy for a new enterprise‑scale Email Service Provider (ESP). You'll lead a small team of developers and collaborate with Product Owners, engineers and cross‑functional team members to deliver a secure, scalable, and reliable platform for high‑volume email delivery.

At Samaritans Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do! We start each day with a time of devotions and spend time praying for each other, our staff and volunteers who serve around the globe.

A day in the life of a Product Technical Lead:

In the role of Product Technical Lead, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and serve as a consistent witness to your faith.
  • Design, build, and maintain the ESP platform’s technical architecture, ensuring scalability, security and deliverability.
  • Guide strategies for sender reputation management, bounce handling, unsubscribe/complaint processing, and deliverability monitoring.

  • Collaborate with other Product Technical Leads and the Assistant Director of Product Development to establish shared technical standards, tools, and engineering practices.
  • Oversee the integrity and quality of deliverables: ensure code aligns with architecture, performance expectations, manage technical debt and uphold reliable deployment and support processes.
Lead retrospectives; monitor engineering metrics; use data to drive continuous process and operational improvements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in software engineering, with proven leadership/mentorship responsibilities and experience building large software products.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern software architecture principles: microservices, API design, cloud infrastructure, and scalable systems. Strong full‑stack development experience including front‑end, back‑end, database technologies.
  • Desired experience building or supporting an Email Service Provider (ESP) or enterprise‑grade email delivery system.
  • Desired deep understanding of SMTP, MTAs, DNS, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, CAN‑SPAM, GDPR, blocklist management, bounce handling, and feedback loops.
  • Desired deep understanding of email deliverability and reputation management.
  • Desired hands‑on experience with event‑driven or streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Rabbit

    MQ) for large‑scale processing.
  • Proficiency in backend development with experience in high‑throughput, fault‑tolerant systems.
  • Working knowledge of Dev Ops/tooling: containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), infrastructure as code, and deployment automation.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience guiding and developing engineering teams, while also contributing technically to core components.
