The operator will use a sewing machine to join, reinforce, or perform related sewing operations in the manufacture of fabric into covers for upholstered furniture. Sewing operators will sew pre-cut fabric pieces per the quality specifications and Standard Operating Procedures for the assigned position, at a pace sufficient to achieve stated production efficiency requirements.

The Sewing Operator (Weekend) position is located in Booneville, MS.

You’ll be excited about this opportunity because you will...
  • Practice safe work practices and demonstrate safe work habits to the workforce and adhere to the Personal Protective Equipment standards of the company throughout the facility.
  • Adhere to Williams-Sonoma policies while performing duties with a positive attitude and willingness to assist others in the department, facility, and organization.
  • Obtain sew-kit bundles weighing approximately 25 – 50 pounds from the designated delivery basket or area.
  • Use a sewing machine to follow established sewing standards, including ½ inch seams, keeping seams straight and aligned with the cover pattern, and ensuring there are no drop stitches or misaligned tabs.
  • Ensure corners are sewn at 90-degree angles and place the finished cover back into the bundle for inspection and further processing.
  • Sew covers that meet the expected quality requirements of Sutter Street Manufacturing at a pace that meets or exceeds 90% efficiency.
Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of sewing experience in production of upper-end upholstered furniture.
  • Onsite role.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, work with hands, read and understand simple sewing instructions, and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment to meet productivity requirements.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written) and ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and follow documented procedures and standards.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to work independently with little supervision.
Preferred qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 3 years of sewing experience in an upper-end upholstery manufacturing environment.
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish.
Physical requirements
  • Ability to frequently lift bags weighing 25-60 lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand for 10-hour periods and bend and twist at waist and knees as required to sew covers.
  • Ability to bend and twist as required to acquire and bundle kits.
