Groundsperson
Townsend Tree Service is hiring a Groundsperson to support tree crews by preparing job sites, loading and unloading trucks with logs, brush, and debris, maintaining equipment, directing traffic, and cleaning job sites.
Position SummaryA Groundsperson is responsible for preparing the job site and loading and unloading trucks with logs, brush, and debris. This position services and maintains equipment, directs traffic, and cleans up the job site. A Groundsperson will assist tree crews by working on the ground and handing tools and heavy materials to crew members.
Duties and Responsibilities- Clear undergrowth from right‑of‑way using hand tools or saws
- Remove sites, streets, and grounds of woody and herbaceous materials such as tree stumps, fallen trees, and limbs
- Flag traffic to protect employees and the public from injury
- Use a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and larger stumps
- Gather and feed brush into wood chippers
- Operate the controls for winches, booms, and spray equipment
- Follow and give hand, voice, or other signals in operating associated equipment
- Service gasoline, air, and hand‑powered tools, as well as other tree‑related equipment
- Drive and operate trucks and equipment as assigned
- Duties and responsibilities may change with or without notice.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Knowledge of basic knots such as bowline, Blake's hitch, taut‑line hitch, and clove hitch
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities
- Attention to detail
- Organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Problem‑solving ability
- Met all physical requirements of the position
- Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by company policy and, if applicable, DOT regulations
- 18 years of age or older (21 if CDL is required)
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
