Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Boonton, NJ |
Schedule: Full-time, 100% Onsite |
Compensation: $110,000 to $120,000 Base
A privately held manufacturer of water and wastewater process equipment in northern New Jersey is hiring a Project Engineer to support a growing, full order book. The company is intentionally bringing more fabrication work in-house, and this hire will own engineered equipment projects from order through shipment, splitting time between the office, the fabrication shop, and occasional customer sites.
What you'll do- Manage engineered equipment projects from order receipt through shipment, holding schedule and budget.
- Serve as the customer-facing engineer on each project, working directly with consulting engineers, contractors, municipalities, and end users.
- Prepare and manage submittal packages, O&M documentation, project schedules, and internal coordination across sales, engineering, purchasing, and production.
- Work public works requirements: specifications, prevailing wage, compliance, and approvals.
- Coordinate daily with the in-house fabrication shop and outside fabricators on drawings, build sequencing, and equipment inspections.
- Review drawings and designs for fit, function, and manufacturability before they reach the shop.
- Participate in weekly project engineering and fabrication meetings to keep the backlog moving.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 4+ years of project engineering experience in manufacturing, water and wastewater, or public works; this is a mid-level seat, not entry level.
- Hands-on experience owning engineered equipment projects end to end, including fabricated equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort reading and reviewing fabrication drawings.
- Highly organized and able to run several projects at once, with strong written and verbal communication with external stakeholders.
- Local to northern New Jersey and able to work fully onsite; no relocation assistance.
- Must be based in the United States and legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for current or future sponsorship.
- Water and wastewater equipment background.
- Experience with municipalities, utilities, or public works contracts (a major plus).
- PE a big plus but not required.
- Base salary of $110,000 to $120,000 depending on experience.
- Medical premium paid 100% by the company for individual and family coverage, with no employee contribution on the base plan; a lower-deductible buy-up plan is available.
- Clear path to Senior Project Engineer, with later routes into design engineering or product development.
- Real project ownership and visibility in a stable, privately held company.
- Short northern NJ commute and minimal travel.
This is a project ownership role with real visibility in a stable, privately held company, offering a clear path to Senior Project Engineer and a short commute with minimal travel.
