Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust – Consultant Cardiologist with Heart Failure Special Interest

Closing date: 02 February 2026

This post is for a consultant in Cardiology. It is a whole‑time opportunity for a highly motivated medical doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care across Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Applicants must hold membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK or equivalent qualifications), be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and be on the Specialist Register or be due to obtain their CCT within six months of the interview.

ACC will be held on Friday 27th March 2026.

Main duties of the job

The post will primarily be based at Southport District General Hospital with the potential to work across Mersey and West Lancashire hospital sites. There is no on‑call commitment. The appointment is to the Trust, not to a specific hospital, and will involve sessions at both Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals.

All consultants – including the appointee – will be expected to implement the Trust's Clinical Governance programme, including active participation in clinical audit, quality improvement, clinical guidelines and pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.

The appointee will join a complement of thirty‑three consultants and will participate in providing comprehensive Cardiology Services across both sites, primarily at Southport Hospital.

Allocation of time among the various duties will be open to adjustment after consultation with consultant colleagues and the Employing Trust.
