Transition Hub – Hugh Baird College

Permanent Term Time Only (36 weeks)

£23,632 Full-Time Equivalent, pro rata according to hours and weeks worked. Plus potential bolt‑on payments for further skills and qualifications

About the Role

Due to continued growth within our Transition Hub, we are expanding our Learner Support team and are seeking additional Learning Support Assistants to join us.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting learners both in and out of the classroom, enabling them to access the curriculum, develop independence, and build confidence academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

As a Learning Support Assistant within the Transition Hub, you will:

  • Provide high‑quality in‑class academic and vocational support, enabling learners with SEND to access the curriculum and achieve their individual targets
  • Support learners in developing independence, confidence and effective study skills both in and out of the classroom
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to adapt learning materials and implement support strategies that meet individual needs
  • Support learners during Maths and English sessions (Entry Level to GCSE) and assist with assessments and exams where required
  • Promote positive behaviour, engagement and inclusion, using appropriate strategies tailored to individual needs
  • Support learners during breaks, lunches, enrichment activities and off‑site visits, encouraging social interaction and wellbeing
  • Assist with the implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
  • Support learners with health, personal care and mobility needs, including use of specialist equipment where required
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding, health & safety and learner progress tracking
About You
  • Experience of working with individuals with SEND, particularly those with Autism (ASC) and SEMH needs
  • A strong understanding of the challenges faced by learners with additional needs and how to support them effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners and colleagues
  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting young people
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records
