The Major Trauma Centre at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust is looking to recruit an experienced Band 6 Practitioner to support the team for a period of 12 months. As a Band 6 Practitioner you will work in partnership with the MTNP to ensure full service provision is maintained, however as a Band 6 you will not be rostered to work independently.

You will work alongside the 5 existing Major Trauma Nurse Practitioners coordinating the care of the Major Trauma patients through the accident and emergency department at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust. Minimum of 2 years Band 6 Major Trauma or Emergency Care experience is essential to this role.

Major Trauma Centre at Liverpool University Hospital is now in its 12th year and compromises of a wide range of roles within the multidisciplinary team to include nurses, medical staff, therapists and managers.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner you will work alongside the existing team coordinating the care of all major trauma patients through the accident and emergency department.

You will be part of a large multidisciplinary team involved in the care of the Major Trauma patients.

You will use advanced clinical, analytical and decision making skills to assess the needs of the patients admitted under the criteria of major trauma from admission and throughout their full stay up until and including their rehabilitation and discharge.

You will ensure continuity of care for the patient and their family and offer advice and support and ward teams, acting as an expert in Major Trauma Care, advising on the most suitable treatment when required.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure all Trauma patients are appropriately assessed, investigations ordered and treatment commenced in line with protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Take a lead role in the daily major trauma ward round and completion of tertiary surveys in order to ensure the proactive management of trauma patients across the whole pathway.
  • Liaise with regional trauma units to ensure effective patient flow, taking an active role in facilitating the reverse transfer process.
  • Act as senior nurse for the trauma team calls when on duty.
  • To provide clinical expertise and specialist advice within this area of practice, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To provide high quality clinical care and assist in the clinical development of the trauma service by ensuring the use of evidence based practice and clinical standards within the speciality.
  • To alert senior clinical and operational management staff regarding any operational issues relating to access/capacity in a timely manner, to allow any further action to be taken.
