We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Youth Justice Officer to join our dynamic Youth Justice Service on a 3-month contract. This role is pivotal in supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes, prevent offending behaviour, and promote safety and well-being. Working within a multi-agency partnership environment, you will engage directly with children, families, victims, partner agencies, and criminal justice professionals.

• Manage a caseload of children and young people subject to Youth Justice interventions.
• Undertake assessments of need, risk, vulnerability, and offending behaviour.
• Develop and deliver intervention plans tailored to individual needs.
• Monitor progress and review outcomes regularly.
• Ensure court orders, out-of-court disposals, and statutory interventions are delivered effectively.
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
• Assess and manage risks to children, victims, families, and the wider community.
• Identify vulnerability and exploitation concerns.
• Make safeguarding referrals where necessary.
• Work closely with children's services and safeguarding partners.

• Support children at risk of entering the criminal justice system.
• Deliver interventions designed to prevent offending and reoffending.
• Promote positive behavior change and personal development.
• Support children to access education, training, employment, and support services.

• Build positive relationships with children, parents, and carers.
• Work collaboratively with social care, education services, police, probation, health services, schools, and voluntary sector organizations.
• Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and reviews.
• Support coordinated approaches to achieving positive outcomes.

• Prepare assessments, reports, and court documentation.
• Present information to Youth Courts and relevant panels where required.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Youth Justice standards.
• Work within statutory criminal justice frameworks and timescales.

• Maintain accurate case records and intervention plans.
• Complete assessments, reports, and management information within required deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with data protection and information-sharing requirements.
• Contribute to performance and outcome reporting.

Requirements:

• Recognized professional qualification in Social Work, Diploma in Probation Studies, Dip HE Youth & Community, or a relevant Youth Justice, Criminal Justice, or related Degree Qualification with associated experience.
• Significant post-qualification experience working with children, young people, and families.
• Experience undertaking assessments and intervention planning.
• Experience with in Youth Justice, Criminal Justice, Children's Services, or a related field.
• Experience managing complex cases involving vulnerability and risk.
• Experience engaging hard-to-reach children and families.
• Experience working collaboratively with partner agencies.
• Previous Local Authority experience.
• Experience preparing reports for Youth Court and criminal justice proceedings.
• Experience supervising students or supporting newly qualified practitioners.
• Youth Justice legislation and practice.
• Child protection and safeguarding procedures.
• Risk assessment and risk management.
• Criminal justice processes relating to children and young people.
• Child development and adolescent behaviour.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong assessment and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage risk effectively.
• Ability to engage children, young people, and families positively.
• Strong report-writing and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to manage a demanding caseload and meet deadlines.
