Role

and Purpose

The role of the Deputy Headteacher at Hollywater School is important both to the strategic development of the school, as well as the effective management of the school’s operational functions. The successful applicant will play a core strategic role in supporting the Headteacher in shaping the future of our school.

As Deputy Headteacher you make a significant contribution to the core purpose of our School which is to ensure that all our students are Inspired to Believe in their ability to Achieve their best personal, emotional, academic and social potential. The position will involve responsibility for Quality of Teaching and Learning within the school, leading teaching and learning across all phases.

The successful applicant will work in tandem with the rest of the senior leadership team who complement each other to provide an exceptional "Quality of Education" for all. As a school, we value and prioritise the importance of high quality professional development for all staff and, as such, coaching and development is a core part of our vision for the school.

Whilst coaching experience is not necessarily a requirement of the role, a passion for coaching and professional development certainly is. It is expected that there will be a teaching commitment based around the needs of the school.

The functions and specific responsibilities below are to be undertaken in conjunction with the duties of a Deputy Headteacher :

  • Have the strategic leadership within the school for Curriculum and the Teaching and Learning provision.
  • Undertaking responsibilities as a member of the SLT of the school.
  • Support Pastoral And Learning Support (PALS) team with the day-to-day management and setting of high standards of behaviour for learning in the school, along with the implementation of policies, plans, targets, practices and procedures related to the system within the context of the vision, ethos, aims and goals Hollywater School.
  • Develop and monitor systems of guidance and support designed to assist staff in maximising student participation and attainment – EARWIG assessment and progress monitoring system and associated frameworks.
  • Raise awareness and understanding of SEN strategies across the school to enable teachers to be more effective in adaptive teaching for Hollywater students.
  • Co-ordinates strategies to achieve identified school improvement, focusing specifically on teaching and learning.
  • Lead whole school work on areas of responsibility related to teaching and learning.
  • Work with the SENCo to ensure the effective use of Provision Map across the school to inform effective communication of students needs.
  • Link with the Examinations Officer to coordinate access arrangements as needed.
  • Work with the School Business Manager to use financial and resource management innovatively and wisely.
  • Build effective links with relevant groups in order to develop plans to meet Subject Leads targets.
  • Work with a range of professionals to support the development of teaching and learning across school.
  • Ensure effective and timely communication/consultation, as appropriate, with Governors, SLT, ESLT, teaching staff, support agencies and the parents / carers of students.
