Haberdashers' Girls' School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and engaging Teacher of History to join our ambitious and intellectually curious History Department on a fixed-term basis until the end of the academic year.
We are happy to consider applications from candidates seeking either full-time or part-time work.
History at Habs Girls is a subject that encourages pupils to look beyond simply what happened, asking them to consider why events unfolded as they did, how we know what we know, and why the past continues to matter. We are looking for a teacher who shares this enthusiasm for the subject and who can inspire pupils to question, debate and think critically.
Our History Department offers a rich and academically rigorous curriculum from KS3 through to GCSE and A Level. Pupils encounter a wide range of periods, places and perspectives, developing not only their historical knowledge but also their ability to analyse sources, evaluate interpretations and construct well-supported arguments. We teach the Edexcel GCSE and AQA A Level specifications.
Beyond the classroom, there are many opportunities for pupils to develop their interest in History further, including History Society, History Book Club, the History Magazine, lectures, competitions, workshops and study visits. Our pupils are encouraged to read widely, pursue their own historical interests and engage with History as a discipline beyond the requirements of the curriculum.
You will be joining an experienced and supportive department where lively discussion, academic curiosity and a genuine passion for History are valued. You will have the opportunity to teach bright and engaged pupils who are keen to learn, ask questions and explore ideas.
We are looking for someone who:- Has a strong academic background in History and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject.
- Is an engaging and thoughtful classroom practitioner, able to inspire pupils across a range of ages and abilities.
- Can create a positive classroom environment where pupils feel confident to ask questions, debate ideas and develop their own views.
- Has high expectations of pupils and is committed to supporting their academic and personal development.
- Is keen to contribute to the wider life of the department and the School.
