Lead Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team and play a key role in the delivery of engineering services at a high-profile, significant infrastructure site.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to work within a complex and high-performing engineering environment, supporting the delivery of reactive maintenance, remedial works and engineering improvements across a wide range of mechanical and HVAC systems.
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will combine strong hands-on technical expertise with effective team leadership. You'll take ownership of day-to-day engineering activities, lead a small team and work closely with colleagues and client representatives to ensure issues are resolved safely, efficiently and professionally.
As our Lead Mechanical Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
 
* Lead and develop a team of mechanical engineers, providing day-to-day supervision, support and direction while managing performance, attendance, training, development and other people-related activities.
 
* Plan and deliver reactive maintenance and remedial works across HVAC, heating, ventilation, pumps, water tanks, valves, pipework and associated mechanical systems, responding quickly to minimise downtime.
 
* Diagnose and resolve mechanical and HVAC faults, taking a proactive approach to fault finding and using your knowledge of BMS and control systems, including Trend BMS.
 
* Drive health, safety and quality standards, ensuring yourself and the engineering team work in accordance with legislation, company procedures, engineering standards and quality assurance requirements.
 
* Develop strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, communicating technical issues, recommended actions and timescales clearly while providing a professional and collaborative service.
 
* Support the effective operation of the engineering function, including helpdesk response, work allocation, safety briefings, documentation, timesheet approvals and ensuring the team has the skills and resources required to deliver successfully.
We're looking for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mechanical building services and a hands-on, proactive approach to engineering and fault finding.
You'll ideally have:
 
* NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 in Plumbing, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (6187) or an equivalent qualification.
 
* City & Guilds 2079 F-Gas qualification – desirable.
 
* Proven experience across mechanical building services, including maintenance, repair and installation.
 
* Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, heating and ventilation systems.
 
* Practical experience working on pumps, pipework, valves, water systems and associated mechanical equipment.
 
* Experience undertaking pump repairs, including mechanical seal replacement and other common pump faults.
 
* Knowledge of electrical principles, safe isolation, controls and basic electrical fault finding.
 
* Authorised Person – Mechanical qualification – desirable.
 
* Previous experience supervising or leading an engineering team.
 
* Excellent communication skills and the confidence to explain technical issues and solutions to clients and stakeholders.
