Electrician and Maintenance Operative

Overview

We are seeking an Electrician and Maintenance Operative to play a vital role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and compliance of the school’s electrical infrastructure. This is a hands-on role providing frontline electrical maintenance support across the campus, responding to faults, carrying out testing, and supporting estates projects.

You will be part of a collaborative Estates team, working closely with the Head of Estates, the Estates Administrator, and external contractors to ensure that the school’s electrical systems continue to support a safe and effective learning environment.

• Electrical Maintenance and Compliance
• Provide first-line response to electrical defects and fault finding across the campus.
• Carry out emergency lighting testing in line with current regulations.
• Support compliance across all electrical installations and systems.
• Provide on-site technical assistance with the school’s fire alarm systems.

• Records and Asset Management
• Maintain accurate records of electrical circuits, installations, and testing.
• Work with the Estates Administrator to ensure electrical testing records and portable appliance testing are kept up to date.
• Maintain accurate stock lists of electrical equipment and materials.

• Projects and Contractor Liaison
• Provide electrical advice and technical input to estates and project teams.
• Liaise with external contractors to support maintenance and project works.
• Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and to required standards.

• General and Out of Hours Support
• Provide an emergency out-of-hours response as required.
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety requirements.
• Carry out any reasonable duties requested by the Head of Estates.

We are looking for a proactive and reliable individual with:

• A formal qualification as an ECS graded electrician or equivalent.
• City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & 2 – Electrical Installation.
• City & Guilds 2382 (17th Edition) or 18th Edition.
• Substantial experience working as a qualified electrician.
• An understanding of how a school or similar environment operates.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Competent IT skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills with excellent attention to detail.
• A full UK driving licence.
