DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Semi-skilled technical work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems. Work in this area involves a variety of specialized tasks, including but not limited to, the operation and maintenance of all traffic signal equipment. The incumbent also installs, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs street lighting systems of 480 volts or less. Installs pavement markings, constructs, installs, inspects, cleans, and repairs all signs per the M.U.T.C.D. Collects traffic data and performs traffic studies.

Identifies and reports traffic hazards. Performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent of Traffic Engineering. This employee reports directly to the Traffic Control Lead Technician. All work is subject to review while in progress and upon completion to insure quality. This position requires employees to respond to emergency maintenance calls after duty hours.

EXPERIENCE/

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Minimum of one-year experience in any traffic related field. May be substituted by a combination of related skills such as electrical or electronic experience. Must possess IMSA Level I Certification in Traffic Signals. Valid Louisiana CDL Operators License. High school diploma or equivalent. This may be substituted by accredited vocational courses in electrical or electronic fields. Must possess basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to interpret and use schematics, diagrams, construction plans and drawings, manuals, etc. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the public. Ability to operate equipment such as vehicles, power tools, hand tools, test equipment, etc. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, must be able to work at heights over 15 feet and must be able to work in roadway with active vehicle traffic.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and have the ability to distinguish the full range of color spectrum.
