Assistant Transportation Manager – Imperial Trading
Brought on to lead transportation operations and support the Transportation Manager, this management position oversees equipment, personnel, and compliance with DOT regulations to ensure efficient routing and delivery of products to customers.

- At least 1 year (6 months considered) of CDL driving experience
- Ability to pass a road test
- Acceptable driving record per DOT and Company insurance mandates

Primary purpose: manage all aspects of equipment, personnel, DOT guidelines, and procedures for efficient routing and delivery of product to customers in conjunction with and in the absence of the Transportation Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Directly and indirectly supervise employees, handling interviews, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving issues
- Lead and manage the transportation department and assist other Transportation Department personnel at Imperial Distribution Centers, coordinating with warehouse counterparts
- Ensure proper staffing and routing to minimize overall costs while delivering excellent customer service and adhering to all DOT guidelines
- Oversee timely and accurate driver deliveries of all products or equipment to customers or company affiliates
- Maintain accuracy and legibility of driver paperwork and documents
- Ensure personnel wear proper uniforms and uphold a professional appearance when representing the company
- Accurately account for delivery paperwork, secure and collect payments by drivers as approved by Accounts Receivable
- Maintain warehouse operations/transportation files and provide executive office copies of contracts, insurance certificates, discipline records, accident reports, and other required documents for safekeeping
- Follow up on various forms/checklists used by the transportation department (e.g., daily DOT logs)
- Ensure personnel use smartphones, devices, and IT equipment professionally per DOT regulations and Company policy
- Ensure personnel operate company vehicles, trucks, and tractors in accordance with DOT regulations and Company policy
- Ensure personnel report to work on time and complete duties promptly
- Execute the above duties cooperatively, processing information effectively and communicating as needed
- Provide assistance in warehouse, driver’s room, damage room, or other areas as required
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Transportation Manager
- Undergo cross‑training into other jobs within the organization as needed
Conduct interviews, participate in hiring and firing, discipline and commend employees, handle complaints, evaluate performance, and set job expectations for up to four supervisory and ten non‑supervisory employees.
Physical DemandsRequires strenuous mental activities, occasional lifting of 20-40 pounds (occasionally 50-75 pounds), frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders or ramps, and use of hands. Adequate vision (close vision, color vision, focus adjustment) is required.
Work EnvironmentWork includes office and outdoor environments, often in wet, humid, or cold conditions. Noise level is usually low to moderate.
