Job Summary

NEPC is looking for a detail-oriented and intellectually curious Accountant to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate enjoys precise accounting work and brings strong analytical thinking, initiative, communication and presentation skills, while helping elevate standards for quality, accuracy and continuous improvement. You will work across core accounting functions, support monthly close and reporting processes and collaborate with colleagues across Finance and Operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are coded accurately and documented appropriately.
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing to ensure timely and accurate payment flows.
  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations and schedules.
  • Participate in audit support, including gathering and organizing documentation.
  • Collaborate with Finance colleagues to streamline processes and improve workflows.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support leadership decision-making.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the firm’s tax filing consultant, supporting information gathering, review, and follow-up related to tax filings.
  • Collaborate with the Accounts Receivable function to review client contracts and validate billing terms and fee arrangements.
  • Contribute to special projects as the organization grows and evolves.
General Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar discipline.
  • 3-8 years of relevant accounting experience (public accounting or corporate accounting environment preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills — able to go beyond the numbers to understand the “why.”
  • Polished written and verbal communication skills; able to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Comfortable working with evolving priorities and shifting between time-sensitive tasks and long-term process improvement work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial systems (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics SL, Concur, Adaptive Insights, Revport, Intacct, Net Suite, or similar ERP tools).
Compensation

The base salary for this role is $62,000 - $81,000 per year for Accountant candidates and $77,000 - $102,000 for Sr. Accountant candidates. Both levels include an additional annual performance bonus. Individual compensation and level are based on a variety of factors, including experience, education, certifications, location, responsibilities of the role, internal equity and alignment with market data.
