Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant serves as the primary accountant for the University’s grants accounting while ensuring that the University’s official grants records are properly maintained in accordance with internal policies, external laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles. This position also will perform various other general ledger account reconciliations, month‑end closing activities, and accounting related duties.
Primary Position Duties:- Serve as the primary focal point of the University’s grants and contracts accounting. The duties may include but not limited to developing grant budgets, reviewing grant proposals, invoicing and reviewing grant expenditures, effort certifications, reconciling and researching, and verifying and analyzing reports and ensuring compliance and coordination with Federal, State, and other agencies for billing and timely reporting. (40%)
- Complete various general ledger monthly account reconciliations such as but not limited to the Bank reconciliations, Short‑term investment, gift revenue, study abroad reconciliations, and prepaids. (50%)
- Other duties assigned on an as needed basis within the Finance Division. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications:- Minimum

Bachelor’s degree (

Master’s degree). - Minimum Work Experience
Required:
3‑5 years of progressive experience (Preferred: 5+ years). - Minimum Knowledge
Required:
Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply them in varied situations. - Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance or related field.
- At least three years of professional experience in progressively more responsible positions providing customer service and office administration support in a complex organization.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills with proficiency in the use of Excel spreadsheets.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with multiple constituents within the university.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects within or in advance of stated deadlines.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and a high degree of motivation is crucial for this role.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of fund and/or grants accounting in a higher education or similar environment.
- Working knowledge of Workday, Banner or similar ERP system.
- Five years or more of professional experience in progressively more responsible positions providing customer service and office administration support in a complex organization.
- A motivated problem‑solver who will take initiative to identify opportunities for and implementation of business process improvement efforts; this would include the experience or ability to automate processes and create efficiencies.
