Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are partnering with a growing manufacturing company that is looking to add a Senior Cost Accountant to their team! This person will own standard costing and serve as a hands-on financial partner to operations. You'll work closely with the General Manager and CFO to explain performance, pinpoint cost drivers, and translate production data into decisions — while partnering with General Accounting to keep inventory and COGS reporting accurate.
- Maintain standard costs for manufactured products — material, labor, and overhead rates, bills of material, and routings
- Analyze purchase price, material usage, labor efficiency, and overhead variances; explain root causes and recommend corrective action
- Partner with operations leadership on productivity, capacity, scrap, rework, and cost improvement initiatives
- Prepare recurring reporting and analysis on KPIs, margins, production performance, inventory, and other operating metrics
- Support product pricing, customer profitability analysis, make-or-buy decisions, and capital investment evaluations
- Review work orders and production transactions in the ERP system for accuracy and resolve exceptions
- Support inventory counts, reconciliations, and analysis of excess/obsolete/slow-moving inventory
- Prepare and review month-end inventory and cost accounting entries and reconciliations
- Help improve costing practices, ERP data quality, reporting, and internal controls as the company scales
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, manufacturing variances, inventory accounting, and production workflows
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred
- Advanced Excel skills;
Power BI a strong plus - Comfortable communicating financial results to non-Accounting stakeholders and working directly on the production floor
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a practical problem-solving approach
The right person gives a reliable read on what products actually cost, explains why results diverge from standards, and identifies where the business can improve — equally comfortable in the ERP details, on the production floor, and in front of leadership.
