Interpreter Coordinator
Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Operations, the Interpreter Coordinator monitors, triages, and dispatches requests for medical interpreters. The coordinator prioritizes requests, allocates interpreter resources efficiently, and negotiates with hospital staff to promote the use of available interpreting modalities. The role ensures compliance with all office and hospital policies, patient confidentiality, informed consent, and national professional standards and Code of Ethics.
Responsibilities- Coordinates daily schedule workflow and maintains schedules for virtual visits.
- Works with supervisor to ensure adequate staffing levels driven by request volume.
- Evaluates and coordinates needs for outside agency services and serves as primary resource for intake of new interpreter requests.
- Tracks vendor attendance assignments and performs daily proactive work toward upcoming deadlines and goals.
- Responds to urgent or last‑minute interpretation requests and analyzes needs throughout the day to assign interpreters via in‑person, video, or telephonic modalities.
- Utilizes Epic to assign resources, document efforts, and create schedules for staff interpreters.
- Represents the Interpreter Services Department by returning phone calls and emails promptly, searching for answers and additional resources, and taking initiative to solve problems.
- Provides assistance with special projects for the supervisor and attends departmental meetings to take minutes and coordinate follow‑up actions.
- Establishes, maintains, and revises record‑keeping and filing systems and performs other assigned activities and duties as required.
Requires a professional, service‑oriented individual with strong organizational skills and sound judgment. An independent thinker who works under limited supervision must possess a high school diploma or GED. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment are essential.
Working ConditionsOffice environment with occasional exposure to outside elements such as delivering equipment or attending meetings. This is an onsite position. Mental and visual attention require a combination of alertness and manual dexterity when typing/using a PC.
