Department Secretary – Part Time (Every other weekend)

Position: Department Secretary

Schedule: Part‑time

Shift: 8‑hour day shift (7:00 am–3:30 pm) – Every other weekend

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: One to two years of previous clerical experience; healthcare setting preferred.

Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and hospital computer systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital personnel in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills to set priorities and complete assigned work efficiently.
  • Basic administrative skills.
  • Physical ability to meet core job requirements.

Essential

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Greets and directs patients, families, visitors, and staff in a friendly, courteous, positive customer‑service manner.
  • Co‑ordinates front‑desk/office support activities, performs clerical duties, and answers telephone calls and inquiries promptly.
  • Maintains communication data and facilitates patient/family/visitor access to hospital services (cafeteria, chapel, gift shop, parking, cashier, etc.).
  • Co‑ordinates transportation appointments for patients and related materials.
  • Collaborates with various departments to ensure patients, families, and staff receive necessary services and information.
  • Performs office and clerical functions, coordinates unit communications, and maintains patient‑care records.
  • Troubleshoots basic office equipment (computers, printers, fax machines, etc.).
  • Follows established practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities to maintain competency and update requisite skills.
  • Follows infection control and safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Compensation Range: $17.88–$26.57 per hour

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. Compensation takes into account education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to the position.
