Med-Surg Cardio Thoracic Unit
Schedule:
Part‑Time, 2–12‑hour day shifts (7:00am to 7:30pm);
May require some holidays when they fall on the shift.
- Provide direct patient, family, and visitor support at the front desk, including greeting, information, and answering inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
- Coordinate front‑desk activities, perform clerical duties, manage telephone calls, and enter patient information using hospital computer systems.
- Attend to patient call lights promptly, triage calls, and follow up to ensure nursing response.
- Maintain communication data and room information, including updating call light, telephone, and room name tags, and distribute welcome letters and informational packets.
- Monitor discharge orders, print and distribute summaries, schedule clinic appointments, and complete required documentation before patient discharge.
- Handle mail, flowers, gifts, and facilitate visitor access to services such as cafeteria, chapel, parking, cashier, and gift shop.
- Identify emergency situations and initiate appropriate response actions per unit disaster plans.
- Coordinate transportation arrangements, including VA transport, chaircar, patient transport, medical records, specimens, and requisitions.
- Assist with patient admission, discharge, and transfer processes, manage insurance pre‑approvals, and submit free‑care applications.
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date medical records, including chart preparation, labeling, and filing; transcribe care orders and coordinate test/procedure scheduling.
- Supply and manage unit inventories, including precaution labels, par‑level supplies, and equipment maintenance.
- Log and resolve unit issues, place work/repair orders, and coordinate with ITS and help desk.
- Perform general clerical duties such as photocopying, fax transmissions, and stay available for basic office equipment troubleshooting.
- Maintain a positive, collaborative work environment in accordance with BMC standards, policies, and regulations.
- Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement projects, and other unit initiatives, and complete required educational training.
- Assist in orientation of new staff and provide support for floating or shift adjustments as needed.
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of competency requirements offered.
- One to two years of clerical experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Proficient in English; multilingual skills preferred.
- Strong basic computer skills with Microsoft Office and hospital systems (SEM, IDX, SDK, etc.).
- Ability to use and troubleshoot basic office equipment.
- Effective interpersonal, telephone, and organizational skills.
- Physical ability to meet core job requirements.
Base salary range: $18.42–$27.37 per hour. Total compensation includes medical, dental, vision, pharmacy benefits, contract increases, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) retirement matches, earned‑time cash‑out, paid time off, and career‑advancement resources.
