Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director, Construction Management, the Construction Manager will be assigned to represent Longroad Energy on site for construction of utility-scale solar energy projects. Such projects will include overseeing site clearing/civil work, solar installations, BESS installation, installation of the medium voltage electrical collection system and the high-voltage substation/utility switchyard. Oversight of high voltage electrical transmission lines may also be part of the role.

On site, the Construction Manager reports to the Project Manager who full responsibility for the construction of the project. The Construction Manager will be assigned to a project and will devote most of the time at the project site based in the field office.

This position serves as the principal point of contact for general contractor and subcontractor representatives at the project site as well as local landowners and community representatives. The Construction Manager must be willing to relocate based on project location(s) as project schedules require.
Work location will vary based on projects.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, directs and coordinates activities at the project site, including general contractor, subcontractors, vendors, and related work for solar energy projects.
  • Oversees construction contractor(s) as the Owner’s representative and primary contact for all construction activities, including the construction of roads, solar installation, low and high-voltage electrical works, substation and other constructed infrastructure at the project site.
  • Works with the estimator and project manager regarding subcontracts, project scheduling, change orders and controlling cost of project within the approved budget.
  • As the primary contact with general contractor(s) and subcontractors in the field, communicates effectively and responsibly.
  • Responsible for reviewing specifications and drawings, executing and managing site QA/QC activities, and communicating any issues and discrepancies to the appropriate party.
  • Prioritizes work in order to meet project goals including deadlines, cost targets and project schedules.
  • Participates in the receipt and inspection of equipment and materials.
  • Responsible for reviewing and maintaining project records.
  • Works as a team player with effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety programs at the jobsite.
  • Represents the organization professionally with general contractor, subcontractors, vendors, and local officials.
  • Willing to relocate to jobsites in multiple states every 6-12 months.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years (prefer 8 to 10 years) experience in a field supervisory role on utility scale solar installation projects.
  • Project experience must include solar installation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of plans and specifications for all solar project design disciplines.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Conversant with computers and possesses general working knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, and document management systems; e.g. Microsoft SharePoint, Dropbox, etc.
  • Ability to produce conceptual estimates of project budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee union and open shop site construction.
