Position: per diem Gynecology Inpatient Operating Room Physician Assistant.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine is recruiting for a per diem Gynecology Inpatient Operating Room Physician Assistant.

We are a full‑service tertiary care referral group of 35 physicians, 18 CNMs, 2 PAs and 7 NPs.

We have a fully accredited OB/GYN residency program with five residents per year.

The inpatient gynecology service for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at BMC includes a clinical team comprised of attending physicians and residents, who work together with the staff nurses, pharmacists, discharge planners and other hospital clinical providers to deliver high‑quality, efficient medical care, in a setting of outstanding clinical education. We have a busy surgical practice with a full spectrum of surgical procedures including management of gynecologic malignancies, pelvic floor dysfunction, family planning and benign gynecologic conditions.

We strive to provide patient‑centered care rooted in shared decision making with patients for treatment options.

Responsibilities
  • Obtaining comprehensive medical histories
  • Performing physical examinations
  • Rounding on and managing admitted and post‑operative gynecology patients
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies
  • Formulating differential diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Prescribing and/or dispensing medications as appropriate
  • Coordinating care among interdisciplinary teams
  • Discharge planning and patient education
  • Performing inpatient and emergency room consultations
  • Managing the abnormal pregnancy tracker
  • Serving as first assist in gynecologic surgical procedures in the operating room
  • Supporting pre‑operative and post‑operative care coordination for surgical patients
  • Participating in surgical case preparation and post‑operative follow‑up as needed

This role is integral to delivering high‑quality, coordinated care to gynecology patients across inpatient and surgical settings.

PA may be involved with a patient's medical care in any role that the attending physician deems proper and consistent with applicable law, hospital regulations, delineation of privileges, and the Physician Assistant's training, knowledge, skill, and experience.

The PA is a valued member of the team participating in the education of the gynecology intern, as well as medical students and PA students during their OB/GYN clerkship.

Minimum qualifications
  • PA applicants must hold at least a Bachelor's degree and must be a graduate of a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC‑PA) or its predecessor.
  • PA applicants must be National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE eligible and eligible for PA licensure in the State of Massachusetts. Documentation of Massachusetts PA license and initial NCCPA certification are required upon hire.
  • PA applicants must hold or be eligible to apply for Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration.
  • Minimum of three years of current physician assistant experience preferred. Prior experience in a similar clinical setting/specialty strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in languages other than English is highly desirable, but not required.
