Position SummaryBoston Medical Center – Brighton, a member of the Boston Medical Center Health System, is seeking a full‑time Stroke Neurohospitalist to join our growing inpatient neurology service. We are seeking a neurologist specializing in complex inpatient neurological care, particularly acute stroke, focusing on rapid evaluation & treatment, and quality metrics. A clinician with expertise in acute stroke care who is committed to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered neurological care in a community hospital environment aligned with the academic mission of Boston Medical Center.
The Stroke Neurohospitalist will provide inpatient neurology consultation, acute neurological care, and support for patients admitted with neurologic disorders. We care for an array of patients with acute stroke, status epilepticus, neuromuscular, neuroinflammatory, and neuroinfectious diseases to name a few. We carry primary stroke center certification and are developing pathways to become a thrombectomy‑ready site. This position comes with the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.
A faculty appointment, academic support for research projects, and mentoring are provided.
The Stroke Neurohospitalist will play a key role in managing patients with ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, TIA, and other acute neurological emergencies, while providing general inpatient neurology support. The role includes close collaboration with BMC’s Comprehensive Stroke Center and access to tele stroke support, subspecialty consultation, and academic engagement.
The position offers the opportunity to practice in a supportive environment with strong ties to BMC’s Department of Neurology, ensuring access to subspecialty expertise, teaching opportunities, and research collaboration if desired.
Responsibilities- Serve as the primary inpatient neurology consultant for stroke and acute neurologic emergencies.
- Provide rapid assessment, diagnosis, and management of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients.
- Support acute stroke alerts, NIHSS scoring, and coordination with emergency medicine and critical care teams.
- Collaborate with BMC’s systemwide stroke program, including tele stroke as applicable.
- Manage general inpatient neurology cases, including seizures, neuromuscular disorders, headaches, neuro‑infectious diseases, and altered mental status.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, and care management teams.
- Optional teaching opportunities with neurology residents, medical students, and APPs.
- Take part in stroke quality improvement, metrics reporting, and program development initiatives.
- MD or DO degree required.
- Completion of an ACGME‑accredited Neurology residency.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology.
- Eligible for medical licensure in Massachusetts.
- Stroke fellowship training or significant inpatient stroke experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with acute stroke workflows and NIHSS certification preferred.
- 24/7 every other week on the general service in‑house 8a‑5p and home call thereafter with PA support.
- Full‑time inpatient position with block scheduling (exact model determined during hiring process).
- Weekend or holiday coverage shared among neurology providers.
- Support from APPs, nursing, and inpatient care teams.
- Access to BMC system subspecialists and academic resources.
