The Assistant Director, Residential Education position reports to and collaborates with the Associate Director for Housing and Residential Education, and will manage all aspects of the administration, supervision, and coordination of residential communities and individual development that occurs in the College's residential buildings. This role will also serve in an on‑call capacity to respond to both emergency and non‑crisis situations. This is an important role that requires excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, as well as a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Assistant Director will directly supervise up to three professional Residence Directors and must live on campus, with responsibilities extending beyond standard hours to include evenings, weekends, and emergency response on‑call duties.

Job Duties
  • Hire, onboard, train, and directly supervise up to three Residence Directors.
  • Assist the Associate Director for Residential Education with onboarding and training of up to one graduate student and 87 student staff members.
  • Develop a rigorous, multi‑step recruitment and selection process for various student staff positions, including marketing materials, evaluation rubrics, and equitable hiring practices.
  • Collaborate on training and development for all staff on residential education, emphasizing student‑learning centered approaches, student support interventions, conduct concerns, and conflict management.
  • Oversee or chair departmental committees and staff project assignments.
  • Administer and implement policies and procedures for departmental operations such as move‑in, move‑out, crisis response, lock‑outs, on‑duty responsibilities, and hiring practices.
  • Participate in the 24‑hour campus on‑call crisis response rotation and provide guidance to the Residence Director on Duty for after‑hours emergencies.
  • Lead partnerships with Emerson College departments to coordinate student health, safety, campus programs, and operations.
  • Meet individual students to discuss concerns, provide support, and refer to resources.
  • Maintain documentation, perform data entry, and submit reports as required by college procedures and state/federal regulations.
  • Create and send notices and communications regarding community concerns, events, and processes.
  • Serve on Sanction Panels and Hearing Boards for elevated Community Standards cases.
  • Conduct final determinations regarding sanctions as an Administrative Hearing Officer.
  • Facilitate summer housing operations, including recruitment, training, and supervision of interns and student staff.
  • Communicate with other departments, staff committees, and faculty regarding student programs and initiatives.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 3‑5 years of experience in a college or university housing and residential life environment, including student staff supervision, housing operations, student programming, crisis response, project management, and administrative duties.

  • Proficiency with G Suite and ability to learn new software.

  • Knowledge of or experience with housing and conduct systems such as Star Rez, Symplicity, Advocate, or Maxient.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
Physical Abilities
  • Position is generally sedentary with occasional movement.
  • Continuous oral and written communication with co‑workers, supervisors, and customers is essential.
  • Repetitive movements, occasional lifting up to 50 lb, reaching, stooping, and reading computer screens.
  • Ability to serve in an out‑of‑hours on‑campus duty rotation.
Work Environment
  • General office conditions with moderate noise levels.
  • On‑campus live‑in position.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $57,250 – $70,200 annually, commensurate with experience. One remote day per week is allowed; hybrid arrangement to be established upon hire.
