The Bunker Hill Community College Performing Arts Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Instructor of Theatre to teach a Wednesday 2:30-5:15pm section of THR 140 Improvisation in Spring 2026. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping students develop spontaneity, imagination, and collaborative performance skills through unscripted scene work.

Course

Students explore the comedic and dramatic potential in improvised scene work, building towards long-form improvisation and material that can inspire fully-scripted pieces.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive instruction in improvisational performance, emphasizing spontaneity, creativity, and ensemble collaboration.
  • Lead studio-based exercises that develop students' storytelling, character creation, and scene-building skills.
  • Support students in connecting improvisation techniques to broader acting and communication principles.
  • Prepare students for participation in an end-of-semester improv showcase.
Job Requirements:
  • BFA or MA in Theatre or a related field, plus professional improv performance experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a diverse and collaborative academic environment.
  • Expertise in improvisational theatre techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MFA in Acting
  • Training at a dedicated improv theatre institution.
  • Significant professional improv performance experience.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish or another language.
