Job Description & How to Apply Below

Alray Scholars Program was founded to help Boston students return to college and graduate. We give Boston students a second chance at college through scholarships, mentoring, and career services.

Mentor Responsibilities

We are always looking for caring, responsible, adult volunteers who can serve as a trusted friend, advisor and advocate to an Alray Scholar. As a mentor, you would support a scholar in developing important academic and life skills, identifying useful resources, making positive life decisions, and ultimately earning an Associate, Bachelor or vocational degree.

  • Commit to working with one scholar for a minimum of one year
  • Attend orientation and training session(s)
  • Meet with your scholar once a month
  • Maintain contact by connecting 1–2 additional times in between meetings
  • Empower your scholar to self‑advocate within the academic environment
  • Check in with Alray staff and provide short progress reports 1–3 times per year
How you help

Volunteers have been critical to the success of our scholars by providing one‑on‑one mentoring, connecting scholars to job opportunities, planning our annual graduation event, and so much more.

About us

The Alray Scholars Program is a non‑profit organization in Boston that focuses on supporting adults returning to college. We provide mentors, scholarships, financial advising, and career counseling to graduates of Boston Public Schools who are returning to college after having suffered a setback on their first try. They left school for a variety of reasons, but they have demonstrated their readiness to return and thrive.

We provide a tailored suite of services, including personalized support from a mentor, career planning services, and an unwavering commitment to see them through to graduation day. To date, we have supported 68 students with crossing the finish line to earn their college degrees, and, ultimately, attain rewarding careers.
