Position

Summary

The Career Exploration Specialist plays a critical role in delivering high-impact programming that supports middle school members (ages 11–14) as they explore future career pathways, build foundational workforce skills, and prepare for Ready to Work (RTW) University. Working in collaboration with the RTW team and Club staff, the Specialist facilitates engaging curriculum, leads career and service-learning experiences, and ensures individualized member support.

While reporting to the Executive Director of the RTW Academy, this position works closely with Club leadership for day-to-day supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Facilitation & Career Exposure
    • Deliver weekly RTW Academy programming, introducing foundational skills aligned with the Massachusetts Work-Based Learning Plan.
    • Coordinate career awareness experiences such as guest speakers, site visits, and hands-on career simulations.
    • Implement Saturday Academy activities focused on leadership, service, and early career exploration.
    • Support the logistics and implementation of out-of-school time programs and volunteer events in collaboration with the MHK Volunteer Manager.
  • Individualized Member Support
    • Provide one-on-one coaching to support members in completing program deliverables, interest inventories, resumes, and applications.
    • Ensure youth understand expectations and opportunities related to internships and RTW University.
    • Refer and support members in accessing academic and enrichment services, in partnership with the College Pathways Manager.
  • Member Transition & Academic Support
    • Coordinate with Pre-Teen Program Managers and SACC to support smooth transitions into the Teen Center.
    • Work with the Education and College Pathways teams to ensure members are on track for high school success.
    • Maintain strong family engagement to encourage consistent participation and holistic member development.
  • Collaboration & Administration
    • Partner with RTW leadership and Club staff to implement employer-based programs and citywide initiatives.
    • Maintain accurate member records and input data into centralized databases.
    • Track participation and progress toward career readiness milestones; generate regular reports and updates.
    • Attend RTW team meetings and contribute to strategy discussions, evaluation, and continuous program improvement.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in youth development, workforce readiness, or program coordination.
  • Strong facilitation skills and ability to engage middle school-aged youth in career-focused programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with database and data tracking systems.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, particularly for Saturday Academy and special events.
  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to commute throughout Metro-Boston as needed.
  • Knowledge of Boston neighborhoods, schools, and community-based organizations preferred.
