Assistant Professor, Biology & Biomedical Engineering
Boston University’s College of Arts & Sciences, College of Engineering, and Biological Design Center (BDC) have embarked on a bold plan to improve human health by working at the intersection of tissue engineering, synthetic biology, cell biology, and mechanobiology.
This tenure‑track assistant professor opening is for a candidate whose research interests use synthetic approaches to engineer novel tissue models of disease and applied therapeutics. Areas of particular interest include regenerative medicine, organoids, and mechanobiology.

Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Primary Appointment: Full time split equally between the Department of Biomedical Engineering (College of Engineering) and the Department of Biology (College of Arts & Sciences). Affiliated appointments with the Division of Materials Science and Engineering, appropriate life‑science and computational departments, and the Medical School may also be considered.
Responsibilities- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses effectively and support student learning.
- Develop an independent research program that attracts significant funding.
- Lead research efforts focused on synthetic tissues, organoids, mechanobiology, and regenerative medicine.
- Collaborate across the university and beyond to strengthen interdisciplinary research.
- Ph.D. in a relevant area of biology, biomedical engineering, or materials science.
- Outstanding research record and potential for leading an independent research program.
- Experience with synthesis, tissue engineering, and cellular biology preferred.
- Strong teaching and mentorship experience at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research and teaching.
