About Create & Learn

As a CS facilitator you will be working with the Create & Learn platform. Create & Learn is an award‑winning computer science education program for K‑12 students, based in Silicon Valley, California. Co‑founded by a former Google Product Director and an Apple engineer, we offer over 40 courses covering a wide range of topics, including coding, game development, AI, robotics, digital design, and cloud computing.

No matter childhood interests or experience level, we have classes that will inspire and engage them.

Position Description

The Computer Science Workshop Facilitator will play an integral role in delivering and sustaining the transformative learning experience that SMASH Scholars need to pursue, persist, and succeed in CS. Each facilitator will guide a group of around 25 scholars through project‑based learning, encouraging inquiry and ownership of learning while fostering CS skills.

The workshop runs from July 13 to July 25, 2026, with additional pre‑launch training days. Facilitators must be available on all weekday days for half or whole days during this period. Preference is given to those able to teach in‑person in Atlanta, GA, Ann Arbor, MI, Berkeley, CA, or Boston, MA. Virtual teaching with Create & Learn may begin in spring after the summer program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend all scheduled training and program dates
  • Adhere to the structure of the curriculum provided by Create & Learn
  • Facilitate CS workshop sessions (3 hr per session, 5 days per week)
  • Alternate between whole‑group, small‑group, and individual facilitation
  • Facilitate learning through inquiry, guide discussions, and ensure all voices are heard
  • Prepare sessions by reviewing material
  • Take attendance and communicate absences to Program Director/Academic Coordinator
  • Track time and ensure technical logistics are in order
  • Manage the space to keep the group on track toward daily and overall goals
  • Continuously assess scholar learning, provide feedback, and pivot as needed
  • Log student achievement data weekly

    Ensure completion of scholar assignments

  • Strong domain knowledge and passion for computer science; expertise in Python, AI, or UI/UX design; committed to empowering under‑represented students.

What You Bring
  • Experience teaching computer science.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or AI, or digital design with a minimum of one semester of college‑level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Commitment to SMASH’s mission and values.
  • Demonstrated success facilitating workshops with 40–45 participants, preferably at high school level.
  • Belief that all scholars can grow and achieve as learners.
  • Experience adopting new technologies through self‑guidance and video tutorials.
  • Results‑driven, problem‑solving to meet goals and deliverables.
