Certified Dog Trainer
Established pet resort in Boston is launching a new, in‑house dog training program, and they're hiring an experienced, certified Dog Trainer to build, lead, and grow this offering from the ground up within their luxury pet care environment.
This role is ideal for a trainer who is entrepreneurial, highly organized, and excited to create a comprehensive training program within an established, premium brand. The resort features dedicated training space for puppy programs, private training, group classes, and board‑and‑train services.
Position OverviewThe Certified Dog Trainer will design, launch, and manage the dog training program in its entirety, including program development, client communication, training execution, and ongoing refinement of services. Communication—both with pet parents and internal teams—is a critical component of success in this role.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Build and launch dog training program from the ground up
- Develop a full suite of training offerings, including puppy socialization classes and structured puppy meet‑ups, private one‑on‑one training sessions, group training classes, and board‑and‑train programs integrated with overnight stays and day services
- Create training curriculums, class structures, schedules, and pricing in collaboration with leadership
- Conduct consultations with pet parents to assess behavior, goals, and appropriate training paths
- Deliver professional, results‑driven training using positive, proven training methods
- Maintain clear, consistent, and proactive communication with pet parents regarding progress, expectations, and outcomes
- Provide written and verbal progress updates, homework, and follow‑up recommendations
- Collaborate closely with daycare, boarding, and leadership teams to ensure consistency and safety
- Utilize dedicated training space to deliver a premium client experience
- Track training notes, client records, and outcomes with accuracy and professionalism
- Support program growth through referrals, repeat clients, and client education
- Uphold luxury service standards, safety protocols, and brand values at all times
- Minimum of 3 years professional dog training experience
- Current dog training certifications (CPDT‑KA, CPDT‑KSA, KPA‑CTP, IAABC, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience creating or running training programs, classes, or services
- Strong understanding of canine behavior, learning theory, and positive reinforcement techniques
- Exceptional communication skills—written, verbal, and in‑person
- Professional, organized, and client-focused demeanor
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build and scale a program
- Passion for canine wellness and education
Full‑time, including one weekend day for puppy socialization classes. Otherwise the trainer will direct their own hours.
Compensation$65 k base salary plus commission (could exceed $100 k total with expected volume).
