KIPP Massachusetts partners with the KIPP Foundation to provide college-preparatory public charter schools serving underserved communities in Lynn and Boston. We serve over 2,200 students and operate two charters, KIPP Academy Lynn Charter School (Lynn) and KIPP Academy Boston Charter School (Mattapan).
Lead Teacher, Special Education, Substantially Separate Program - KIPP Academy Boston Charter School
- Role Overview: Instruct a small group of students in core content areas (Math, Reading, Humanities, and Science) and provide classroom support. Serve as case manager for Special Education students, managing IEP paperwork, meetings, and accommodations.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Lead instruction for 1–4 content areas or IEP-based instruction.
- Create daily lesson plans, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments.
- Modify standards, grading scales, and differentiate instruction to meet student needs.
- Set specific goals and leverage resources to achieve them.
- Use best practices for special education and infuse core values into instruction.
- Complete Functional Behavior Assessments (with BCBA guidance) and develop trauma‑informed social‑emotional groups.
- Support 504 and IEP processes and collaborate with counselors on Behavior Support Plans.
- Participate in professional development and coaching sessions.
- Perform support duties including coverage, bus, lunch, and dismissal as needed.
- Develop strong relationships with families and sustain consistent communication.
- Professional & School Responsibilities:
- Obtain required MTEL and SEI endorsements within the first year; preferred:
Special Education licensure. - Provide secondary content support when needed.
- Design student culture vision and collaborate on grade‑wide systems.
- Meet attendance expectations and fulfill extra duties as assigned.

- General Requirements:
- Embody KIPP MA’s Code of Conduct.
- Demonstrate data analysis, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Show flexibility, emotional intelligence, and communication competence.
- Physical ability to perform required duties (including lifting up to 20 lbs).
- Qualifications:
- Deep alignment with KIPP MA’s mission and values.
- 2+ years of full‑time teaching experience (Special Education preferred).
- Preferred:
Special Education licensure and prior experience with laws and paperwork. - Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Computer literacy and Google Suite familiarity.
- Pass Criminal Background Check.
The minimum base salary for this exempt position is $63,000 to $102,500 (per 1.0 FTE/45 hours per week), plus a $1,000 signing bonus and an annual $2,000 retention bonus in subsequent years. Additional bonuses may apply.
