Job Description

The Coordinator of Library Services, Chelsea Campus engages and collaborates with our diverse campus community by overseeing library services on the BHCC Chelsea Campus. This librarian works collaboratively with the library team to deliver circulation, research, instruction, and outreach services to the students, faculty, and staff on the Chelsea campus. Additionally, the Coordinator of Library Services, Chelsea campus works closely with other support services staff and faculty at the Chelsea Campus to best serve the students.

The librarian additionally provides virtual research help, through chat and Webex appointments, to all library users. Also, this librarian will help with the college's OER and Open Education initiative, helping faculty find and evaluate OER. This librarian is expected to think critically in analyzing problems and developing resourceful solutions and manage a complex workload, prioritizing tasks and completing work on time with minimum supervision.

This position reports to the Dean of the Library, Learning Commons, and Tutoring and Academic Support Center.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee library services at the BHCC Chelsea campus.
  • Provide borrowing services to patrons, including items from the Reserves collection and Library of Things at the Chelsea campus.
  • Coordinate borrowing between campuses with other librarians and library staff.
  • Provide reference and research support virtually and in person at the Chelsea campus.
  • Provide reference coverage for real‑time chat reference services.
  • Participate in outreach and programming to engage students, faculty, and staff, especially on the Chelsea Campus.
  • Provide library instruction for classes held on the Chelsea campus, as needed.
  • Collaborate with OER Specialist to expand BHCC's OER initiative and Open Education initiative.
  • Work with faculty to find and evaluate OER resources, especially library resources.
  • Serve as library liaison to the Chelsea campus, meeting regularly with other student support services staff on the campus.
  • Supervise library science student interns, student workers, and non‑union support staff as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Library Science, or closely related field; with five (5) years experience and/or training involving library operations, reference service, bibliographic instruction, circulation service, copy cataloging and library information systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering access services to patrons.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting reference consultations and familiarity with academic research reference sources: databases, integrated library systems, and research tools.
  • Ability to help faculty find, evaluate, and customize OER.
  • Capacity for working enthusiastically, flexibly, and creatively in a student‑centered environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively and inclusively with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students.
  • Familiarity with current trends in academic library information systems, community colleges, and higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Competency with a wide range of educational technologies and productivity software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in a community college setting.
  • Experience with an OER initiative within an academic library.
  • Experience with outreach and marketing services to students and faculty.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
Additional Information

Salary: $77,358.00 - $83,345.00 (Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate with Education and Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement)

Grade 6 Unit Professional position. Full Time Benefited position.
