Job Overview

WSP is seeking a Highway Resident Engineer to oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated infrastructure projects valued between $1‑$50 million. The position can be based in Boston, Worcester, Chelmsford, MA or Providence, RI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise a staff of inspectors, material technicians, and surveyors.
  • Interface daily with contractors, subcontractors, and project owners.
  • Chair progress meetings and prepare minutes.
  • Review and interpret construction contract documents, ensuring conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Evaluate technical submittals and shop drawings for intent and compliance.
  • Anticipate and resolve design and construction issues.
  • Review contractor schedules and assess schedule logic.
  • Track daily reports, measurements, and unit price quantities.
  • Lead contractor pay requisition development, review, and approval.
  • Assess potential change orders and negotiate owner positions.
  • Monitor traffic compliance and maintain traffic maintenance records.
  • Take and compile photographs for daily progress tracking.
  • Update drawings in Bluebeam and prepare punch lists.
  • Coordinate final inspections, prepare final pay estimates, and support project closeout.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Maintain workplace safety and comply with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • 9 years of applicable experience, including 4 years of supervising staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; average proficiency with MS Word Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • ACI or NETTCP certifications or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring.
  • Hands‑on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, Procore, IPD, or similar systems; knowledge of Bluebeam.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications, and experience will be considered.
