Commissioning Agent – WSP USA (Boston, MA)
WSP USA, an award‑winning and innovative multi‑disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Commissioning Agent to join our Boston, MA office. The successful candidate will lead the execution of building commissioning processes (new, re‑design, retrofit, continuous), perform energy auditing and building retrofit applications, support sustainability certification applications, and implement measurement and verification techniques.
Job DescriptionWe work closely with architects and owners worldwide on large, complex projects focused on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. Our engineers deliver high‑quality, high‑profile national and international projects. As a Commissioning Agent, you will work under the supervision of the senior commissioning lead, receive training and guidance, and be encouraged to participate in business‑development activities.
Your Impact / Responsibilities- Execute standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction as defined in ASHRAE guidelines.
- Perform engineering design reviews for commissioning‑related activities.
- Conduct ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits.
- Support attainment of building sustainability certifications such as LEED and ENERGY STAR.
- Scope work for a variety of building components, including mechanical, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting, and specialty systems such as fire alarm, security, nurse call, renewable energy, and enhanced building technology/control systems.
- Communicate and organize meetings, coordinate schedules, and prepare reports.
- Desire to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in the trade and advance a career in commissioning.
- Ability to travel part of the time.
- Prioritize effectively, maintain good follow‑through, and implement self‑check quality control measures.
- Desire to attain Cx, controls, and/or TAB certifications.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant years of related field experience.
- 3 to 5 years of post‑education experience in a building or systems commissioning discipline.
- Familiarity with building commissioning principles, practices, processes, design/build, and their application to project work‑related issues.
- Familiarity with building planning, design, and installation management, including renovation and new design.
- Familiarity with smart building design.
- Deep understanding of relevant building technology/system installation and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Analytical mindset, exercising sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Flexibility to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required, depending on project requirements.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $90,800 – $125,000. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and may offer additional benefits and compensation, not related to protected status.
