PAE is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineering professional to help grow our presence in Boston, lead project teams, manage discipline-specific design work, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
This role oversees the creation of technical deliverables, coordinates with internal and external partners, and applies advanced engineering judgment from concept through construction. Responsibilities include mechanical system design (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, energy modeling), developing workplans, site visits, mentoring staff, improving company standards, and strengthening client relationships while upholding the project quality management plan. Candidates should have a mechanical engineering degree and 6-10 years of relevant experience (including 2-4 years as a Lead Mechanical).
You’ll Do
- Project team leadership and discipline management, responsible for completing the project on time within budget
- Preparation of deliverable documents including narratives, calculations, drawings and specifications
- Attend client meetings, lead coordination between external and internal project teams
- Independently evaluate and apply engineering judgment, techniques, and procedures from concepts through construction
- Proficient in mechanical system design, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Energy Modeling
- Assemble effective project teams
- Develop project workplans, tasks and assignments for the team
- Thorough understanding of interdisciplinary coordination
- Advanced understanding of building codes and mechanical industry standards
- Oversee engineering calculations and equipment selection
- Perform site visits and issue reports
- Provide training, guidance and mentorship for staff
- Update master specifications and standards, and improve company processes
- Develop client relationships
- Oversee the application of the project quality management plan (QMP)
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Relevant professional credential (e.g., PE) is preferred
- Minimum of 2-4 years as Lead Mechanical, or 6-10 years’ related work experience
- Experience in a leadership role
- Inspire and motivate staff
- Serve as a technical resource for the company
- Advanced understanding of mechanical engineering concepts, able to communicate design options
- Able to assemble and run a team
- Strong delegation skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Revit or AutoCAD
- Hiring Base Salary Range: $109,200-$143,500 annual
- Timesheet-based overtime eligible (time and a half)

The base salary is a component of PAE’s compensation package. Roles are eligible for additional rewards, including salary increases and annual bonuses based on individual performance.
