Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first‑of‑a‑kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. Our expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions supports critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We are currently hiring a Senior RF Design Engineer who will be a key member of the GA-EMS Radar Technologies group. The Senior RF Design Engineer will lead RF designs and trade studies in support of new air and ground‑based designs and will report to the Manager of Hardware Engineering within the Radar Technologies group.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Simulate and design RF circuits and subsystems for future air and ground‑based systems including transmit/receive modules, up‑ and down‑converters, and RF beamforming networks.
  • Develop and maintain RF design requirements from high‑level system performance specifications.
  • Perform design trade studies including gain, output power, noise figure, cost, ease of manufacturing, and more.
  • Perform bench‑level evaluation and troubleshooting of RF designs and subsystems.
  • Collaborate with the hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to drive development of subsystems and assemblies.
  • Represent the company at technical reviews, meetings and formal design reviews.
  • Stay current with RF industry innovations, developments and trends.
Job Qualifications
  • Education and experience:

    Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution, with at least 18, 16, or 13 years of progressive engineering experience respectively, or equivalent engineering experience in lieu of formal education.
  • Demonstrated detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice, with ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet deadlines or milestones and some experience in project leadership.
  • Proven experience simulating and designing RF circuits, subsystems, and assemblies using tools such as MATLAB, ADS, HFSS, and/or CST.
  • Proficiency in RF measurement techniques and skill in operating standard laboratory equipment, including network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other essential tools for precise signal testing and analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of RF PCB design and layout.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a fast‑paced, R&D environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to interface effectively with other departments, customers, government representatives, and professionals.
  • Customer‑focused and able to work on a self‑initiated basis or in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Experience designing modules and subsystems for radars and/or electronic warfare systems.
  • Experience designing and optimizing antennas.
  • Previous experience working with the Department of Defense.
  • Active security clearance.
