As a Steam Turbine Mechanical Technical Field Advisor (TFA), you provide on‑site technical direction to customer‑owned utility and nuclear power plants for their Steam Turbine Generator System(s). You review plant engineering documents and P&IDs, troubleshoot plant systems, and organize and direct resources—labor, tools, and materials—to complete work scopes according to contractual requirements. The primary responsibility of the TFA is to safely manage the maintenance and repair of equipment used in power generation applications, while also helping drive our Steam Power vision and aligning with GE Vernova’s core values.
Roles and Responsibilities- Perform on‑site installation of systems and equipment and ongoing preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration after installation.
- Lead outage crews including crafts, union technicians, and onsite services teams.
- Respond to requests for emergency repairs and services for troublesome equipment.
- Provide technical instruction and assistance to customer representatives regarding installation, operation, calibration, repair, and maintenance at customer sites.
- Perform administrative functions such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, and managing time‑sheet and expense sheets.
- Sign off on all changes implemented.
- Drive customer satisfaction through commitment to quality.
- Maintain a strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects GE Vernova safety standards.
- Use knowledge to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance checkout for a wide range of equipment vintages.
- Prepare timely and accurate technical reports for customer records and future outage references.
- Ensure all needed parts are shipped to the site.
- Perform walk‑downs during installation to ensure contractors are working properly.
- Perform aftermarket upgrades at the site level.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience in Power Plant Maintenance, Turbine Maintenance, or Power Plant Equipment Installation or Commissioning; OR high school diploma with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to travel 80% annually to projects and field assignments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport.
- Successful completion of required training programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience to actively support an outage and seek solutions as needed.
- Commitment to excellent customer service with external and internal stakeholders.
- Experience with successful installations and outages.
- Experience and training on GE, Alstom, Siemens, or other OEM equipment preferred.
- Extensive field engineering services experience required.
- Pipe fitting and tubing experience.
- Fluent in English.
- Very good project management, oral and written communication, interpersonal, leadership, and business acumen skills.
- Ability to travel to support customers inside and outside the U.S.A.
Employment is contingent upon acceptable background and drug screening results (within 48 hours of receiving the test paperwork). You will receive specialized training to prepare for the assignment and must complete periodic training to maintain competency. All training courses attended must be successfully completed for employment.
For U.S. locations, only candidates legally authorized to work in the United States may be hired. The salary range for this position is $70,000–$105,000 USD annually. Geographic differentials of 110%, 120%, or 130% of base salary apply in certain areas.
