Electronics Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer, Test Engineer
Analog Photonics is a Boston-based silicon photonics company developing high-performance photonic integrated circuits for LiDAR, free-space optical communications, data communications and defense systems. Our designs, including the world's best optical phased arrays, are built on a proprietary 300mm CMOS-foundry silicon photonics platform optimized for low cost, high reliability and high yield. Engineers here work hands-on across the full design, build and test cycle, and your work goes directly from concept to prototype to fielded system.
Therole
We are looking for two Photonics Engineers who are strong experimentalists to build, test and demonstrate our optical phased array LiDAR and free-space optical communications (FSOC) systems. You will spend most of your time in the lab: aligning and characterizing photonic chips and modules, building free-space and fiber test setups, and turning measurements into clear answers for the design team.
What you will do- Characterize silicon photonic chips and packaged modules: optical phased array beam patterns, steering, side-lobe levels, insertion loss, phase-shifter and modulator response.
- Build and run system-level experiments: FMCW ranging, coherent links, bit-error-rate and link-budget measurements, indoor and outdoor range tests.
- Design and assemble free-space and fiber setups with tunable lasers, amplifiers, photodetectors, cameras and beam profilers.
- Automate instruments and wafer- and die-level test in Python or MATLAB, and manage large data sets.
- Debug across optics, electronics and firmware with the electrical and FPGA teams.
- Write test reports for design reviews and customer deliverables, and feed results back into device and system design.
- MS with 2+ years of experience, or PhD, in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Optics or a related field.
- Demonstrated hands-on optics lab experience: free-space alignment, fiber coupling to chips, and optical and RF test equipment.
- Experience testing integrated photonic devices or systems.
- Python or MATLAB for instrument control and data analysis.
- Sound understanding of coherent detection, noise and link budgets.
- LiDAR, optical phased array or free-space optical communications experience.
- High-speed electro-optic measurements at 10 GHz and above.
- Wafer-scale or automated photonic test.
- Photonic packaging experience: fiber attach, active alignment, thermal control.
- Field-test experience outside the lab.
This position is full-time and on-site in Boston, Massachusetts. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Pay range: $130,000 to $175,000 per year, depending on experience.
Analog Photonics is an equal opportunity employer.
This position requires access to export-controlled technology. Candidates must be US persons as defined by 22 CFR 120.62: a US citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee or asylee.
