Position Summary

The Senior Financial Accountant oversees the monthly reconciliation of complex cash accounts and general ledger entries. This role prepares quarterly and annual financial statements and supports schedules for the Agency’s bond, grant, and other programs, and ensures compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal controls. Acting as the primary accountant for designated programs, the Senior Financial Accountant collaborates with Finance and other departments to ensure proper accurate recording of all accounting transactions in the Agency’s general ledger.

When assigned to a bond program, this role works closely with the Treasury and Bond Compliance teams during bond series offering and in processing debt service payments throughout the life of the bond. The Senior Financial Accountant reports to the Financial Accounting Supervisor.

Mass Housing operates under a hybrid work model; therefore, employees are expected to work on-site according to a schedule determined in collaboration with their manager and based on the needs of the role. To support effective onboarding, new employees may be required to work in the office more frequently during their first 90 days.

Essential Functions

General Ledger and Reconciliation

• Reconciles various General Ledger accounts with corresponding subledgers and complex bank accounts
• Prepares and reviews general ledger entries, ensuring accurate and timely posting to the general ledger in accordance with the deadlines specified in Financial Reporting production calendar

Budgeting and Financial Reporting

• Prepares Annual Budget for designated program(s) with accuracy and promptness
