Position Summary:
Cambridge Associates’ Credit Investment Group (CIG) is responsible for all fixed income and credit-related investment strategies on a global basis. This spans private credit, credit hedge fund, and public investment grade and non-investment grade funds. Fund strategies include asset classes such as investment-grade, leverage loan and high-yield bond funds; credit and distressed hedge funds; and direct lending, mezzanine, distressed and other specialty credit strategies executed through private funds.
In addition to identifying compelling manager, fund and market investment opportunities, the CIG also works directly with other Investment Directors and clients in constructing, implementing and managing credit portfolios.
The Investment Director will have an integral role collaborating with the group’s Managing Directors while providing leadership and direction to the Investment Associates. The Investment Director will primarily focus on Private Credit and either lead or assist in (i) identifying market themes and investor trends(ii) identifying and monitoring a range of sub strategies within Private Credit including hosting manager meetings and conducting comprehensive due diligence;
(iii) acting as an expert resource for the firm’s investment professionals for credit-related inquiries and (iv) coordinating various other activities related to the CIG. The position will be based in Boston, MA.
Key Responsibilities:
· In collaboration with other members of the Credit Investment Group, develop opinions on private credit landscapes including all sub-strategies such as Direct Lending, Credit Opportunities, Specialty Finance, and Special Sits/Distressed, through continuous qualitative and quantitative research and analysis. Articulately share and communicate these perspectives throughout the firm internally and externally.
· Develop a deep understanding of the relationship between public credit markets and private credit offerings. Be able to compare and explain the trends in public and private credit markets.
· Actively evaluate and monitor investment managers to source new investment ideas. Lead meetings with general partners, portfolio managers, and other senior personnel, and attend annual meetings and industry conferences. Compose summaries and commentaries of manager meetings.
· Conduct in-depth investment due diligence on private credit managers through in-person meetings, onsite interviews, reference checks, performance analytics, and independent critical analysis. Assess funds in terms of organization, investment strategy, performance, fund terms, portfolio construction, and other key attributes, and develop a cogent opinion/recommendation of the opportunity. Prepare written reports for use internally and externally which provide colleagues and clients information and a basis for investment decisions.
· Serve as an informed, trusted resource to colleagues and clients seeking views and ideas on the private credit landscape including i) the risk return profiles of various sub strategies; ii) comparisons with fixed income products and other asset classes both private and public; iii) the global macro trends affecting credit; and iv) fund managers across the private credit space.
