** Job Overview
** Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant manages the day-to-day accounting functions for MSA, including in the areas of recording and reconciling transactions, management of month-end close activities, accounts payable and receivable, payroll and benefits administration, and support of an annual audit. In addition, this role provides support to federal grants management activities, such as participating in fiscal monitoring of Ameri Corps subrecipients, reviewing documentation submitted by subrecipients, and performing allocations in compliance with federal regulations.

** Key Responsibilities
**** Internal Accounting Management –
** Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. Maintain the general ledger, reconcile accounts, and ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls. Lead the month-end close processes, including making journal entries. This role has autonomy to develop processes and systems to complete these activities at your discretion, in alignment with MSA’s established internal controls and fiscal policies.
** Accounts Payable & Receivable –
** Manage vendor and customer accounts, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and deposits. Maintain accurate aging schedules and support cash flow management through diligent monitoring of payables and receivables.
** Payroll & Benefits Administration –
** Process semi-monthly payroll and administer employee benefits in coordination with Human Resources (HR). Submit accurate tax filings and reports, and perform timely benefit reconciliations. This role provides a support function to other staff who hold HR responsibilities; in particular, you will be responsible for managing enrollments, terminations, and any employee adjustments to their benefits selections; reviewing and reconciling invoices, including reconciling balance sheet accounts related to payroll liabilities.
Others at MSA are responsible for training and communication related to benefits offerings.
Experience with Massachusetts employer tax requirements is a plus.
** Annual Audit Support –
** Prepare schedules, supporting documentation, and reconciliations for the annual financial audit. Collaborate with external auditors to ensure a smooth and efficient audit process and timely completion of financial statements and Form 990. Audit preparation will be highly collaborative with the Controller.
** Ameri Corps Fiscal Compliance Support –
** Support fiscal compliance and reporting for Ameri Corps grants, ensuring expenditures align with grant budgets and federal guidelines. Maintain thorough documentation and assist with financial monitoring and reporting requirements. Although helpful, this role does not require prior experience with managing federal grants and offers the opportunity for professional development in this area.
** Summary of Essential Functions
** 1. Manage day-to-day accounting functions in alignment with relevant nonprofit accounting standards utilizing an online financial management system, ensuring accounts are reconciled and books closed in a timely manner each month
