Development Accountant - Residential Real Estate
We are seeking an experienced Development Accountant to join our team, playing a key role in financial reporting and operations for our corporate and real estate portfolios. This position offers a competitive salary of up to $125k plus bonus and will lead the month-end close process, ensure accurate accounting practices, and collaborate across various internal teams, including Acquisitions, Asset Management, and Legal.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the financial close and reporting processes for corporate and assigned portfolios
- Maintain the general ledger and perform reconciliations across key accounts (cash, AP, AR, loans)
- Prepare financial statements, reports, and variance analysis
- Process intercompany transactions and manage audits for joint venture portfolios
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable for invoice processing, capital calls, and compliance tasks
- Reconcile bank statements and compile weekly cash reports
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- 4-7 years of accounting experience
- 1-3 years of experience within residential real estate, residential portfolio, or residential asset management
- Proven experience in financial reporting, account reconciliations, and the month-end close process
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Background in land development or build-to-rent real estate environments
- Exposure to joint ventures or investor reporting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
- Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, Timber Scan)
- Analytical thinking and data synthesis
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
