The Senior Auditor will work with the Internal Audit Department to review the Massachusetts State Board of Retirement’s processes for efficiency, effectiveness, and control adequacy. Responsibilities include conducting compliance, operational, and financial audits, documenting findings, and following up on corrective action plans.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Execute audits and operational reviews under the direction of the Audit Supervisor and track progress of corrective actions.
- Research applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to each audit.
- Complete standard audit forms and documentation relevant to the audit.
- Interview personnel, verify data, analyze findings, and observe actual practices to assess compliance.
- Participate in meetings, presentations, and advisory sessions with Treasury’s Internal Audit Department and external audit vendors.
- Collaborate on the annual risk assessment and audit plan for MSRB.
- Assist with external audit requests and updates to the Internal Control Plan and policies.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
- Develop working knowledge of Treasury and MSRB operations.
- Travel when required.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent.
- Preferred:
Certified Information Systems Auditor (CIA). - 3‑5 years of internal or external audit experience, especially with retirement plan benefits.
- Knowledge of professional accounting principles.
- Experience leading audit engagements and independently completing all audit phases.
- Experience in research and using data analytics software.
- Proficiency in data analytics tools and policy analysis methodologies.
- Understand Massachusetts General Law Chapter 32 and MSERS plan rules.
- Advanced knowledge of generally accepted government auditing standards (GAGAS) and IIA internal auditing standards.
- Working knowledge of COSO ERM Framework.
- Proficiency in Office 365, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Access, Visio, Teams, etc.
- Experience with ACL or other data‑analysis software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Detail‑oriented, big‑picture thinker capable of managing competing priorities.
- Team player capable of working independently.
- Adherence to Treasury’s policies and core values.
- Commitment to continuous self‑improvement.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
After a 3‑8‑week in‑office orientation period, new hires transition to a hybrid schedule. Minimum two office days per week, with at least one of them being Monday or Friday, plus one mandatory in‑person department meeting per month.
