Overview

As a Protective Services Worker, you'll investigate reports of elder abuse and self-neglect, provide consultations, and make referrals. Your role includes assessing elders’ needs, risks, and decision-making capacity, and delivering short-term, goal-focused casework and counseling. You'll ensure accurate documentation in Harmony APS software and adhere to protective service regulations and agency policies.

Responsibilities
  • Handle cases of elder abuse and self-neglect, consulting with the supervisor as needed.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments within 30 days; respond to emergency reports within 5 hours, rapid responses within 24 hours, and non-emergency reports within 5 days.
  • Evaluate elders  capacity to consent to services.
  • Contact relevant individuals and consult with your supervisor regularly.
  • Document risk assessments, case status, and service plans accurately.
  • Develop and implement service plans with elder consent, matching services to their needs.
  • Enter and update service plans in APS promptly.
  • Participate in 24-hour on-call coverage and manage intakes efficiently.
  • Represent the agency at external meetings and contribute to community education.
  • Stay updated on EOEA regulations and participate in required trainings.
  • Protect clients’ Personal Health Information and report any breaches.
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and agency regulations.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human development, nursing, or gerontology with 1 year of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience with elders preferred; sensitivity to elder issues required.
  • Strong assessment, advocacy, and client empowerment skills.
  • Knowledge of Home Care, Mass Health Programs, and gerontology issues preferred.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in Microsoft Office and typing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
