Vice President, Chief Medical Informatics Officer

The Vice President, Chief Medical Informatics Officer role at Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute is a strategic leadership position reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer and collaborating closely with the Chief Data and Analytics Officer, Chief Information Officer, and other senior leaders. The successful candidate will develop and execute a comprehensive medical informatics strategy that aligns with the cancer center’s mission, supports clinical workflows, advances research, and promotes operational efficiency.

Ideal candidates have a minimum of eight years of leadership experience in healthcare informatics, with strong expertise in Epic and other clinical applications, as well as a proven track record of implementing solutions that improve patient care and research outcomes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive medical informatics strategy aligned with the cancer center’s mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with the CMO, CQO, CIO, and CDAO to identify opportunities for leveraging informatics to improve patient outcomes, streamline workflows, and advance cancer research.
Clinical Informatics
  • Oversee the implementation and optimization of the Epic EHR system and other clinical applications, ensuring they support clinical workflows and enhance patient care.
  • Lead initiatives to leverage clinical decision support systems, telemedicine, and other informatics tools to improve the quality and safety of patient care.
Research Informatics
  • Collaborate with the CDAO and researchers to implement informatics solutions that facilitate translational research, clinical trials, and data‑driven discoveries in oncology.
  • Champion the development of data infrastructure and analytics capabilities to support cancer research initiatives.
Data Governance and Security
  • Collaborate with the Chief Data and Analytics Officer, CIO, and IT/security teams to implement and monitor data security measures.
Interoperability and Integration
  • Spearhead efforts to enhance interoperability between various healthcare systems, promoting seamless data exchange and collaboration.
  • Integrate informatics solutions with laboratory systems, imaging platforms, and other relevant technologies to create a unified and cohesive healthcare environment.
Education and Training
  • Develop and implement education and training programs for healthcare professionals on the effective use of informatics tools and technologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the organization.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Stay abreast of relevant healthcare regulations and standards related to informatics and ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other requirements.
Additional Responsibilities and Goals
  • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for clinical information systems.
  • Responsible for physician engagement, adoption, standardization, and optimization of clinical information systems.
  • Identify, evaluate, and assess new care‑delivery technologies, making recommendations on integration impacts and fostering digital adoption.
  • Set strategic direction for clinical systems, improving physician efficiency through EHR optimization and innovation.
  • Develop governance frameworks, address strategic goals, and identify opportunities for enhanced use of clinical information systems and reporting/analysis tools.
  • Understand physician needs and burnout drivers related to EHR usability, and develop strategies to address them.
  • Communicate the latest trends in healthcare, clinician wellbeing, clinical information systems, and point‑of‑care products.
  • Serve as physician subject‑matter expert in defining clinical system requirements for implementation and champion adoption.
  • Drive clinical innovation by collaboratively developing strategy, processes, and resources to pilot and evaluate new tools, workflows, and methods.
  • Partner with the CDAO, CIO, and AI Governance Committee on validation, testing, deployment, and monitoring of clinical AI tools and models.
