Location:
Arbour Hospital, 49 Robinwood Avenue, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA.
Hours and days:
This co‑op runs from January 20th through June 21 (approximately). Hours are typically 7 am–3:30 pm or 3:30 pm–11:30 pm; co‑op students are required to work every other weekend.
- Assist in admission process under direct supervision of RN.
- Complete non‑clinical tasks related to admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Help patients aged 12+ with psychiatric and substance abuse diagnoses meet immediate needs toward self‑maintenance under RN direction.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings with RN to report patient progress.
- Document and report patient progress/regression.
- Follow policies and procedures of the hospital, Inpatient Services Program, and Nursing Services.
- Pursue continuing education opportunities related to patient care or professional development.
- Meet hospital attendance policy as per Personnel Policy manual.
- Hold groups or activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Assist with patient mobility and positioning.
- May need to apply approved restraint techniques per safety protocols and training.
- Stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs during routine duties.
- Work comfortably in situations involving behavioral challenges or requiring de‑escalation.
- Complete mandatory training in crisis intervention and safe restraint procedures.
- Exposure to cleaning agents, medications, and potential infectious diseases.
- Noise, temperature fluctuations, and other hospital hazards; clinical difficulty with patients.
The organization provides crisis intervention, de‑escalation techniques, infection control protocols, and proper patient handling procedures. PPE such as gloves, masks, gowns, and eye protection are supplied and required as appropriate.

- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- College student pursuing degree in behavioral health, psychology, or human services preferred.
