Ambulatory Services Representative II – Bariatric/General/Peds Surgery Position Summary
The incumbent in this role will support the clinical practice by providing front‑end customer service, patient registration, insurance/coverage verification, and a variety of administrative duties as needed. The role may also support billing and managed‑care functions, including charge entries, billing edits, charge reconciliations, responding to billing inquiries, corresponding with insurance carriers, and investigating billing discrepancies.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties- Charge entry
- Batch controls
- Billing (TES) edits
- Hold bill edits
- Charge reconciliations
- Billing and managed‑care functions (responding to inquiries, corresponding with insurers, investigating discrepancies)
- General administrative support (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations)
- Physician and departmental support (managing calendars, scheduling, credentialing documents)
- Reception and customer service
- Creating or verifying Master Patient Index (MPI)
- Registration demographics
- Visit management
- Appointment scheduling (consults, tests, procedures, follow‑ups, interpreter coordination, social services, radiology)
- Insurance/coverage verification
- Co‑payment collection
- Front‑end review and correction of registration and insurance edits
- Pre‑authorization, referral coordination and reconciliation
- Referral work lists
- Handling phones & mail, filing, photocopying, faxing, preparing letters and reports
- Adherence to BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards
- HS/GED plus 3+ years relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree, or
- Associate’s degree plus 1 year relevant experience
- Experience with medical billing or similar setting preferred
- Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer service skills with independent judgment and creativity
- Strict confidentiality of personal/health information
- Ability to handle challenging situations and balance priorities
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and web/internet; experience with standard hospital registration & billing systems or ability to learn
$22.36 – $27.26 per hour. The range reflects minimum qualifications; total compensation includes benefits, SSA, 403(b), paid time off, and other incentives.
