The Anesthesia Technician plays a vital role as a member of the anesthesia team, ensuring the proper maintenance, calibration, and supply of anesthesia equipment. The technician assists with sterile procedures and helps manage the inventory of necessary supplies and medications within the operating and delivery suites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stock anesthesia supplies and medications in operating rooms and delivery suites.
- Maintain sufficient supplies of medical oxygen, nitrous oxide, and air for anesthesia procedures.
- Review operating room schedules to determine equipment requirements for specialized procedures and prepare the operating room accordingly.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot anesthesia equipment based on manufacturer instructions and departmental protocols.
- Clean and disinfect anesthesia equipment following each use to ensure patient safety and infection control.
- Assist with sterile procedures, including the placement of Swan-Ganz catheters, blood transfusions, and the administration of spinal, epidural, and other pain-blocking techniques.
- Ensure proper disposal of waste materials and adhere to safety regulations.
- Respond to equipment malfunctions and provide timely solutions to minimize delays in procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and inventory levels.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in anesthesia technology preferred.
- Knowledge of anesthesia equipment and supplies.
- Ability to maintain sterilization procedures and assist in sterile environments.
- Familiarity with operating room protocols and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment and supplies issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Certification as an Anesthesia Technician or related certification from a recognized organization.
- Previous experience working in an operating room or anesthesia-related field.
- Familiarity with medical gases (oxygen, nitrous oxide, etc.) and their proper handling.
- Certification as an Anesthesia Technician is preferred.
- CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
