Director of Health Services

Supervises the full-time year-around operation of the Health Services department. Plans and implements the overall nursing policies, procedures, and services. A nurse led and run health office, contracting with and under supervision by an off-site MD. Responsible for the provision of a safe and healthy school environment, monitoring of immunizations, managing communicable diseases, and infection control measures. Supervises and directs the work of the other nurses (one full-time and six per diem).

Recruits, selects, orients, and trains clinical staff. Provides direct patient care and is responsible for the assessment, planning, and evaluation of that care. Acts as primary liaison with school doctor, Hibari Medical, Boston doctors, psychiatrist and counselor. Collaborates with Tokyo partners, Student Services and Academics departments in the care of students.

• Writes, reviews and manages all policies and procedures relating to health services operation, to include public health policies, immunization policies, HIPAA and other requirements and policies relating to the management and operation of the health office and staff
• Supervises and coordinates nursing schedules and activities: assigns duties and coordinates nursing services. Sets standards of care as an example and leader. Leads the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff
• Ensures compliance with all public health requirements from the Boston and Massachusetts Departments of Public Health.
• Seeks knowledge and skills appropriate to college health care systems and integrates new information and methodologies. Gains additional skills or competencies as needed
• Manages the health documentation system (currently using Titanium system) monitoring staff nurses’ documentation and ensuring health records are kept in order.
• Manages Health Services Budget, supervising and maintaining records of expenditures
• Creates and directs medical emergency response team, ensures that select employees are certified in First Aid, CPR and AED, maintains AED care (with outside provider)
• Provide back up on call support to the nurses, while they are on call.
• Provide treatment of students’ medical and psychological concerns, utilizing nursing process; i.e., assessment, diagnosis, planning and implementation
• Creates care plans with nursing staff for students with complex or special needs to ensure that they will receive appropriate medical care in Boston.

• Triage experience in school or college health, pediatric medicine or emergency room setting.
• Communication skills both written and verbal are essential, maintaining lines of communication between various departments on campus,
• Capable of assessing and updating health and public health policy, creating written policy and communicating it as needed, in various formats, written, PPT, posters, etc.
• Ability to communicate clearly about complex healthcare and public health issues, and communicate with people for who English is their second language.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience, as well as advanced skills in nursing and public health
• Possesses good public speaking and presentation skills to conduct training programs
• Comfortable learning new computer systems. Able to use Microsoft Office software
• Conveys open-mindedness regarding issues and concerns of students
• Possesses the ability to interact with students in a caring, professional, and culturally sensitive manner. Exhibits a desire to truly help those in pain whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual.
